Event | The Beatles Story and Tour
Hi, it's Andrea! Sorry for not uploading last week, I thought I'd take a break during Easter (mainly to enjoy the sunshine).
Although, last week, while I was off, I did go to visit the 'Beatles Story' museum and took a trip on the 'Magical Mystery Tour' with Dale Roberts (instagram linked below) in Liverpool.
The Beatles Story Museum
Right next to the docks of the Mersey river, we found 'The Beatles Story Museum'. Whilst queueing up you are given the opportunity to take some green screen photos with prop guitars and fan-made signs, you are also given the opportunity to pose as "walking down Abbey Road". Before the tour starts, headphones and a screenpad. As you walked around the museum different audio recordings were available from various people like Paul Mccartney, Cyntia Lennon and fans of the Beatles; this meant that you could go completely at your own pace.
The museum was set out in chronological order, from biographies of each Beatles' childhood and how they met, all the way to the splitting up of the Beatles and passing of John Lennon and George Harrison. Specific places each had their own presentation, for instance replicas of the 'Mersey Beat' office and the Cavern Club. Each album had a dedicated section, with incredible artwork and models of memorable references like Eleanor Rigby's grave, the Sgt Pepper outfits, and even the inside of a Yellow Submarine.
Close to the end of the tour, each Beatle had their own section, about their life after the split up and it even displayed previous instruments of theirs.
Overall, the tour was amazing; I found out lots of information I didn't know and came to be even more familiar with events I already knew about. The museum really showcased the 'story' of the Beatles well, focusing on not just their music but their lives as well- for any avid Beatles fan, you may even get a bit emotional near the end.
The Magical Mystery Tour and the Cavern Club
After finishing the museum (also located on the docs) was the start of the 'Magical Mystery Tour Bus'. A two hour journey on a bright yellow bus, with Beatles music playing and cheesy jokes- what more could someone want? Dale (the tour guide) was funny, interactive and clearly very knowledgeable. He not only showed us the locations but explained them and their history. Whilst on the tour he told jokes, asked questions and made sure everyone on board had fun (something every good tour guide should do).
The tour opens with a small introduction and then is straight off to Ringoland, where Ringo was born, raised and educated. It then carries on across Liverpool, visiting various locations like Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields; the tour also stops at multiple places such as George Harrison and Paul Mcartney's house. Also on the tour were places like Liverpool Cathedral, LIPA and it finished off with the most famous club in the world- the Cavern Club.
From the tour, we received free admission to the Cavern Club and a free souvenir. The Cavern Club itself was incredible, the atmosphere inside was something so unique: signature's of visitors on every inch of wall, signed photos of celebrities from all around the world, showcases of historical instruments and outfits, live music on the famous stage. From the moment you step in there you sense the history and the music, this is what made the Cavern Club so incredible.
As a whole, I would recommend both the museum and bus tour to any Beatles fan, young or old, as it is an amazing experience and Liverpool is a very unique city!
Thank you for reading this far along, I hope you enjoy these reviews and make sure to contact me if there's a specific topic you'd like me to explore. In addition to this, I may be changing my upload day from Thursday to Sunday in the near future, as it is the weekend and I will have more time to write my post.
Again I hope you enjoyed and come back soon, Andrea. x
